Middle schoolers from Durand and Marygrove stepped into the realistic streets of Mcity, University of Michigan’s 30-acre simulated urban test environment, this fall for an immersive two-day Pop-Up Safety Town experience. Co-founded by Dr. Andrew Hashikawa, Associate Director of the Concussion Center’s Engagement & Education Core and Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine, the program brings hands-on traffic safety and STEM learning to underserved communities. With strong support and partnership from the Concussion Center, this first-ever collaboration between Mcity and Pop-Up Safety Town united rural and urban students for real-world problem-solving, engineering exploration, and injury-prevention education.
Post Mcity Science Fair
The learning didn’t end when students left Mcity. Back in their classrooms, students from both schools created posters for a Science Fair, transforming what they learned into visual stories and creative demonstrations.
