The Michigan Concussion Center has been actively recruiting University of Michigan faculty, staff, practitioners, and members-in-training to join our diverse community of researchers, practitioners, and advocates.
With over 150 individuals from the U-M concussion community affiliated with the center, we will focus on convening these members of the community to further our interdisciplinary goals.
Over the past several months, dozens of members met for two research workshops, where they participated in facilitated exercises to develop our research priorities. Members are also engaging with external research partners by participating in monthly journal club meetings, where they discuss the latest in concussion research publications.
To increase visibility among and for our researchers, faculty members have a dedicated faculty directory page on the Concussion Center website, complete with biographies and research areas of interest, in order for members to begin collaborating with each other on research projects.
“Working in concussion has shown me the necessity of a collaborative environment that values the unique contributions that different fields bring to the table,” said Katie Scott, a clinical neurophysiologist at the Mary A. Rackham Institute. “This cuts across all aspects of concussion work, whether it’s research, clinical care, or outreach. It was clear to me that my colleagues in the Concussion Center valued collaboration, and I wanted to join them in their goal of providing excellent concussion care at both the individual patient level as well as the larger community level.”
Concussion Center membership is available to members of the University of Michigan community who meet the following criteria:
- An active faculty or staff appointment at one of the three U-M campuses
- A post-doc, fellow, resident, graduate or undergraduate student at one of the three U-M campuses
- A record or demonstrated potential for research, clinical care and/or outreach in concussion or a demonstrated interest in concussion
- A willingness to participate in interdisciplinary collaborations
- A commitment to contributing to the mission of the Concussion Center
