I’ve always had a vested interest in the brain and thought it was so fascinating. When I was around 11 years old I was flipped onto my head during a soccer game. I wasn’t properly screened and went on living my life. However, something felt very wrong but back then, there wasn’t a lot of advocation for head injuries. Hence, my interest in TBI’s was developed and I continued to look into it within the sports realm specifically, but in other capacities too. I like to think of myself as an advocate in preventing head injuries when possible. For example, I coach soccer, and the first thing I bring up when we get into headers, is how important it is to hit it with the correct part of your head, and told them to be vigilant when they feel like something might be wrong. I think awareness and advocacy is a crucial thing that needs to be focused on more in the world of head injuries.
